Rescue Squad
We have seven members currently active with both the Davidson County Rescue Squad and the Overton County Rescue Squad. These
members' objectives are to serve and protect Nashville/Cookeville and the counties surrounding by
volunteering their time to K-9 Search and Rescue (SAR), utilizing canines and resources
for the relief and aid of saving lives. They are internally certified by the Davidson County and Overton County
Rescue Squads, members of Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads (TARS), and members of the National
Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR). We carry one Trauma Surgeon Medical Doctor within the
Unit and all members are certified CPR Professional Rescue and First Aid.
We currently cover the entire Region III for SAR relief, and
dilligently train several times a week to ensure life safety. Our search and rescue
structure enables the handler and canine to assist in a variety of ways including:
Tactical Rescue,Rubble Search, Water and Wilderness Rescue, Unstable Ground Search,
and Building Searches. Though pre-dominantly air scenting, foot track scenting is
also taught and covers an area up to 800 yards per sweep. Our dogs are put through
a rigorous training routine, sometimes training twice a day. Most of our dogs
are imported from Europe as high drive working dogs, versus the common pets you
see. This not only insures no negative cross breeding, but also dogs that
have been continuously improved over the years. Their job is to work and their joy
in passion is to do so. They are all friendly with children and adults and have
been socialized with a variety of animals. They are also qualified around big city
noises, gun shots, lights, and crowds, as well as slick floors, rough terrain, and
weathered. If you would like a demonstration for your school or church, feel free
to call us! (615) 438-2602
